June 16th

After Seminole Canyon I stayed the night at a hotel in Marathon, TX, then on to camping in Big Bend National Park and Fort Davis. I planned on being in Las Cruces NM now, but I’m currently in Anthony TX, 20 miles south. Something must be happening there, I couldn’t find a reasonably priced hotel that had better than 3 star reviews.

The drive from Ft Davis today started on fun mountain roads past McDonald Observatory, then down into the flat west Texas hellscape of interstate 10. Temperatures were under 100 at least, but zero cloud cover.

Marathon TX

Found the memorial wall of many steaks, and a cute kitty that knows how to beg.

Big Bend

Rangers (thankfully)talked me into camping at the Chiso Basin rather than the Rio Grande Village because the 20 deg temperature differences.
These localized storms look like giant floating jelly fish.
Tried some dirt roads. Found a dozen kind of things that can poke you.
Santa Elena Canyon will be a highlight of this trip.
I went swimming in the Rio Grande and briefly became an illegal alien in Mexico!
This is Lupe, he was taking my picture, and helped me big time by giving me a ride to this area since the road was too washed out for me to risk riding my motorcycle to it.
This is the view from outside the Chiso Basin just before sunset.
This is a view from inside the Chiso Basin just before sunset.
These guys liked to crawl across the roads infront of my bike.

Fort Davis

HW 170 from Big Bend to Presidio TX is an underrated best scenic/motorcycle route.
Rain storm, stay tuned for more here….
