June 24th

From Los Alamos I went to Chama NM, then Mancos CO and then a night at Ridgeway campground.
Between Los Alamos and Chama I passed through Abiquiu, the area Georgia O’Keefe moved to for artistic inspiration.
Echo Amphitheater near Abiquiu.
At a point before Chama, I crossed from the Front Range to the West Slope.
Beyond Chama I spent most of the afternoon traveling 32 miles on a dirt road thru the Navajo Nation into Colorado.
Beyond Chama I spent most of the afternoon traveling 32 miles on a dirt road thru an Apache Reservation into Colorado.
A colorful bridge crossing the Navajo river.
Into Colorado!
I needed to keep going, but there was a point here I wish I had my Colorado fishing license.
At my cousin Janet’s home in Mancos CO.
A view from their house.
Then I was off to Ridgeway, up the million dollar highway where I reached 10900 ft altitude at some points.
One of the many mountain views.
Along the way I also had to put on my rain gear for about 20 miles.
Red Mountain.
I arrived in Silverton CO just in time to see the steam engine train come in! 🙂
A view from the Ridgeway campground. It rained off and on all night, and was my first experience with camp rain on this trip. Things got wet and I got a Park Ranger upset by hanging some things on a tree. Grrr Rules…

From here my next stops will be a single night camping at the Black Canyon of the Gunnison, then a motel night in Montrose and then 2 more camping nights in the Black Canyon.
