Matt's Big Adventure

August 7th

About 3 hours east of Whitehorse YT, and 5 days from Anchorage, one of the rod bearings in my motorcycle failed. Weird feeling as I coasted the bike to a stop on the shoulder of the ALCAN. From the coordinates on my dash cam video I know the point of breakdown was at 59.9255311, -131.2788326, a place of like to revisit again someday.

Without mystery, this wasn’t the end of my trip. It was the end of my motorcycle trip TO Anchorage, but the guys atMotoMorini were more than helpful, and with kudos to them, I got to continue my trip back home on a brand new bike, same model (650cc XCape), and with all my needed accessories and mods for the long trip. The story continues…

The day started out well, perfect 70 degree weather. I stopped at this meadow to get a closer look at these flowers, and made a drone video of the area. It is very close to the most north I made it on the trip. (60.2 degrees N).

Luckily, just as I was beginning to think about hungry bears and less than a half hour later, I was on the back of another motorcycle driven by a fellow traveler who was on his way back to Ecuador after traveling up to Prudhoe Bay. Thank you Irwin(sp?), sorry I didn’t get a picture! He took me back about 20 minutes to the last gas station I had stopped at.
